"I've never had a bad meal from Mr Spuds!! Great selection of fresh meats and vegetables for their lunch menu. They have the absolute best chicken & dumplings! Great burgers, Prime Rib Po Boy, homemade biscuits, and homemade desserts! It's all very good!!"

- Jeremiah P.

"The food is great, but the service is above 5 stars. I Really liked this place. Authentic southern cuisine. Indoor seating and plenty of parking space. Will def comeback in my next visit to mobile."

- Nelson R.

"Quaint & relaxing atmosphere. Love this place! Great food! Great Service! The burgers, chicken tenders, (love the honey mustard!) salad choices are great! The potato soup is the best I've had anywhere! AND they do have some good desserts to choose from - I suggest getting it to for later because you'll be completely satisfied from the meal. There can be a wait due to it's popularity but well worth it! They close between lunch & dinner so make sure you check the hours. Ask for Jess or Gabbi - both are outstanding servers & make you feel like family. Friendly & always smiling! I promise you won't be disappointed."

"Overall, it's a really great spot. It feels very cozy inside and the menu offers some great southern cuisine. Only downsides of the meal was that the soup and bread arrived late, as it came with the meal."

- Anna T.

"Great down home cooking in a relaxed and comfortable setting! Highly recommend the fried pickles, green fried tomatoes, fried oysters, Royal Reds, turnip greens, fried okra, pork chops, mashed 'taters with gravy; and the chocolate cake and carrots cake are both to die for!"

- Susan K.

"Mr. Spuds is a really good meat & three restaurant, with a rotating assortment of choices every day for lunch, and a set selection for dinner. They also have a lot of (fried) seafood options as well as steaks, sandwiches, salads and stuffed potatoes. Strangely, for a place with "spuds" in the name, there aren't a lot of stuffed potato options to choose from -- seafood, sirloin and cheeseburger, and the two I've tried have been just okay, flavor-wise. They are a full meal, at least. The country fried steak might be a family favorite, however. It's a little thin but it's cooked perfect so that it's tender on the inside and still crunchy (but not dry or greasy) on the outside. The chicken tenderloins are also very good thanks to being good quality breast meat that doesn't get dried out from overcooking. Liver and onions got a thumbs up from one family, too. Sides are all mostly if not all home made, with excellent turnip greens* that remind me of Nikki's West in Birmingham (which is a huge compliment in my book). The mac & cheese is creamy smooth home style, as well. Green beans were more 'eh' and may be canned but doctored up with bacon, which is never a bad thing. Onion rings, fried pickles and hush puppies are all really good appetizers. The pickles are some of the best I've had around here, and a lot of places do good fried pickles. You also get a TON of them for the price. Sweet tea is really good, and the service is down home friendly but still professional. Overall, a really nice place to go for good country cookin'. * - Turnip greens vary in quality by the season, so sometimes they're not fresh and not that great. But in season, they're usually the best you'll find anywhere."

"I had dinner there for the first time tonight and was very impressed! It was such a large portion of food for the price and everything tasted wonderful! Eric was impressive helping us with anything we needed and was a pleasure to talk to!! I have the cheeseburger spud (absolutely wonderful and a full meal) and the hush puppies and turnip greens! I topped it with a piece of chocolate pie and there wasn't a single bite that wasn't delicious!"

Most Disliked things

Some diners mention occasional delays during peak hours, particularly on Fridays. However, the wait often proves worthwhile. A few find certain homemade sides hit or miss, particularly the green beans. Daily specials can sometimes run out early, especially during busy lunch hours.

Limited stuffed potato options may disappoint some patrons, given the name. While the country-fried steak shines, certain seasonal ingredients can vary in quality. Ultimately, these minor issues don’t overshadow the overall positive experience.
